Announcing
TOGCC.ORG Web Page Version 2.0
Feburary 2007

Hello TOGCC Club Members and Congratulations on your fifth year annaversary!

Over the past several months the TOGCC.ORG web page was redesigned. The cut over of the newly updated TOGCC.ORG web page version 2.0 took place just prior to your monthly club meeting in Feburary 2007.

I hope you enjoy your redesigned webpage and I hope you feel that the update of togcc.org web page reflects TOGGC and its members in a positive manner.

Your new web page was designed with your club in mind. Every detail for your version 2.0 web page was carefully considered and implemented in hopes to reflect a positive image that represents your club well. Effort was made to carry over a little of your previous web page's look and feel. The updated web page was designed and coded to provide a fresh bright look that will last for the next several years.

The togcc.org Ver 2.0 web site was created with the same colors of your club logo red white and blue. Many new graphics and titles were designed to reflect a clean bright web image for your club. I hope you find the navigation of your site easy and intuitive.

The site is totally functional and should remain freash looking for several years.

Here is a short history of your web page:

The togcc.org web page was created and launched by Connery in 2002.
The website fell into disrepair in late 2004.

The acting TOGCC President Russ Shepard took action to get the club web page operational again in late 2005. The President enlisted the help of a web technician that could revitalize the TOGCC Web site. After a few months the web page was on the mend. The Calander, Photo Galley, News Scroll, and Home Page were all repaired and functional again in early 2006.

It was determined that, albeit the original web page served the club well it was in need of an overhaul. The web site needed some new paint. The objective was set to create a updated version of the TOGCC website better than the original, both externally as well as the enternal HTML code.

The TOGCC web site was redesigned from the ground up with a bright new look in mind. Every detail was carefully considered and implemented to carry over a little of the clubs history and to provide a fresh look that will last for several years!

Here is a flashback of events that brought the TOGCC web page to where it is today:

The following are excerpts from past TOGCC Web Development Updates -

Analysis of TOGCC web page...
The web page is difficult to edit because of the manner it was
initailly created. The code is written in an eloborate and
extensive manner in order to display a small amount of information.
Further yet; the web page has large areas of space that can't be
used because of the underlieing html code format.

Analysis of TOGCC web space...
The web space is loaded with files that are not used in support
of the web page. The organization of the file structure is a
tweak disorganized.

Recommendation...
It is my recommendation to rewrite the TOGCC web page and clean
up the web host space. A rewrite would be less painful than changing and
maintaining the current web page. A lean approach to html coding
should be used to accomodate easy updates and additions to the web
page.

The current web page could be maintained and updated while a new page
is being created. The new page could have all the same functionality
and features of the current page but written with the long haul in mind.

Finally, a new page could be written in a manner that utilizes the full
capacity of a computer screen with little space wasted. Web pages are
like real estate. Every square inch should be used effectively.

Here is where the togcc.org web development was in the begining:
When I started web development on togcc.org the web page was a mess. Nothing worked properly. The list of problems was extensive.

Here is where the togcc.org web development is currently:
Everything is fixed and functionalon the TOGCC web site. The TOGCC web host space is cleaned up and organized. Your web page is clean and coded well.

Here is the togcc.org web development future:
It is my intention to hand over the code and updates to TOGCC. It is not an easy task. It takes someone that is very comfortable with computers.

The following are only a few of the many taskes that need to be completed all the time; Maintaining and creating HTML code, cutting and pasting percise portions of html coded text, managing the togcc.org web space & its directory structure, transferring files using FTP, converting files, and sizing pictures.

Web Page Development Overview
Development Objectives and Priorities:

Short Term:
Rewrite Calendar Page - Highest Priority
Rework Tech Tips Page - Highest Priority
Rework Links Page - Highest Priority

Perform Monthly updates to the Home Page Pictures - High Priority
Perform Monthly updates to the Home Page Scrolling Text - High Priority
Perform Monthly updates to the Picture Gallery - High Priority
Perform Monthly updates to the Calendar - High Priority

Adjust Home Page Menu Spacing - High Priority
Note:
The spacing on the home page menu is to narrow.
Compare the menu on the home page to the menus on the sub pages.
The sub pages are easier to read because of the space between menu picks.
The home page menu spacing will be adjusted to match the sub page menus.

Adjust pages for 800x600 resolution viewing - High Priority
Note:
Most pages are already optimized for 800x600 viewing

Adjust web graphics links in all pages - High Priority
Note:
This task is not noticeable to web page viewers, but it is critical to quality web page development. It is a background task, you won't know it is done but it is important.

Adjust all graphics for hight and width settings in code. - High Priority
Note:
Some of the graphics on the togcc.org web page are not set to the correct size. There is a six pixel deviation in some of the graphics which makes the web page appear jumpy when going from one page to the next. This item will be corrected in conjunction with adjusting the web graphics links, item above.

Check all hyperlinks to other sites and links to pages inside the togcc.org web page - High Priority
Note:
Some of the links are currently broken. i.e. the Tech Tips page and the Links page.
There are also a handful of links broken that regular users will not notice. It all depends on how you browse the site if you will notice the broken links. I think you will not find them before they are fixed.

Add mouse over for web graphics on home page, i.e. River Cities, McKaig.....- Medium Priority

Rewrite home page - Medium Priority
Note:
The rewrite of the home page will be to realign the format and elimiate vacant space.
The page will look much the same as it does now, only a little tweak for performance and shined up ready for show. (Hows my club jargon?)

Final Web Page Development Synopsis:
A lot of progress was made this month. The Photo Gallery got off the ground and 121 photos are ready for your viewing. The home page was tweaked yet again and is looking pretty semetrical and clean. Updated pictures of members were added to the home page for the second consecutive month. Your new sponsor was added to the site and the TOGCC and other logos where cleaned up for optimum viewing pleasure. The TOGCC, your, web space under went phase one of a two part house cleaning. All and all, things are improving on the TOGCC web site.

On the down side... I completely broke the Tech Tips Page and the Links Page. I knew that they were being demolished when I was making my updates. No worries though, they both will be better than new by your next months meeting. I will also have the calander back up and running by next month.

Take a look at your web site at least once a month. It is my objective to make your site something you can be proud of and feel compfortable sending folks to view. Heck if your lucky it may even attract a few members.

Look for an update next month.
I hope to complete all that I said I would. I'll do my best.

Regards,

Craig

Development Objectives and Carried Over from Last Month
Note:
The following list of items carried over from last month appears lenghtly but, the actual amount of work is not equal to the work required to complete the TOGCC Calendar. The Calendar was a large piece of code. Not only did the calendar have to be created but it had to be populated with event data. Just figuring out the format of the calendar was time consuming. I am confidient a few of the remaining development items will be completed this month

Short Term Development Objectives:
Rework Links Page - Highest Priority

Final Web Page Development Synopsis:
Substantial development progress was accomplished this month on the TOGCC web page. The calendar was completed and updated, and the Tech Tips page was completed. Updates were made to the home, photo gallery, and newsletters pages. Work was completed on the code of several pages to enhance the operations of the web site. The links page is the only page remaining to be adjusted.

Look for the TOGCC web page to be outwardly completed next month. All pages will appear simular in format and be fully functional. Some work still needs to be completed on the HTML code as detailed in the development objectives brief above. Also, next month I will provide some information about your web host to include storage statistics, and domain registration information. Keep an eye on your web page. Visit it monthly. Event, Calendar, and Photo Gallery updates will be posted before the next club meeting.
